Dunes Dress Pack

The Dunes pack contains the original Dune dress plus two new designs that can be styled in numerous ways. Staying true to the Dune aesthetic, both new designs feature ddropped sleeves and a slightly less full bust. This makes them easier to wear with a jacket and allows them to be styled as short dresses or tops.

THE 3 DUNES DESIGNS

1. Model 1, is the original version of the Dune dress, characterized by its fullness and unique feature being the absence of traditional sleeves. Only the long dress version is available.
2. Model 2 remains a loose-fitting style but is more fitted at the bust. It's a shirt dress with a button placket at the front and features dropped sleeves. This model can be made as a long dress, a short dress or a top.
3. Model 3 is the most fitted version, as it can be cinched just below the bust using two casings at the front and back.This version is also aussi the simplest to sew , as there is no button placket at the front or collar. The neckline is finished with bias binding. This model can be made as a long dress, a short dress or a top.

ABOUT SLEEVES...

While the original Dune dress, model 1, had no sleeves, dropped sleeves have been added to models 2 and 3. This reduces the fullness at the chest and makes them easier to wear in any season and in any circumstance with a jacket or coat.

3 COLLARS FOR 3 DIFFERENT STYLES... THE CHOICE IS YOURS

You can make the Dunes 1 and 2 models with three different collar styles (model 3 has no collar).

The stand-up (or funnel) collar, worn closed, will further emphasize the very fashionable and sophisticated style of your Dunes dress. You can see it in the photos of the fuchsia cotton satin version by Céline @tenyearsappart. Worn unbuttoned, it resembles a turned-up shirt collar. This is the option I chose for my striped cotton Dune dress.

Alternatively, you can opt for the classic shirt collar to enhance the shirt dress effect of the Dune dress, or the mandarin collar for a simpler Dune dress!

SO HOW MANY MODELS ARE THERE IN TOTAL?

By combining the 3 different models, the different necklines, and the different lengths… the number of possible variations of the Dune dress is countless!

SIZING:

As you've probably gathered, the Dunes designs are oversized. They have a lot of room and are meant to be worn that way. However, you can choose to wear them a touch more fitted – and I do mean just a touch 😉 – by selecting the size below your usual size. No worries, it will definitely fit! However, since the neckline and sleeves are fitted and designed to correspond to the pattern size, transfer the neckline measurement of your actual size to the chosen pattern size.

Fabric recommendation:

The fullness of the Dune dress calls for the use of lightweight fabrics, but not necessarily fluid ones.

The dress works very well with viscose, crepe, silk, cotton poplin, linen, and washed linen, for example.

• Lightweight to medium-weight fabrics: approximately 90 to 220 g/m²,
• Woven fabrics (batiste, poplin, twill, denim, etc.)

In the photos, the Louise shirt was made:

• in white Oxford (140 g/m²) from Atelier Brunette
• in lightweight denim (180 g/m²) from Atelier Brunette
